This week we are taking a closer look at Jesus' prayer in his final days before his death and resurrection.

Speaker 1 00:00:18 Welcome to the lent meditation and worship series with west side church. Our hope is that this time can be a breath of fresh air. As we journey towards Easter together. Let us begin today by pausing for a moment, turning our attention to Jesus And being expectant of the movement of the holy spirit in our time together. If you are in a place to do so, close your eyes, Hold out your hands in front of you and take a deep breath in And out. And another in And out Next week is a holy week And we'll walk through the last week of Jesus' time on earth before his death and resurrection. One of the last and longest prayers of Jesus happened just days before his death. And this week, we're going to take a deeper look at that last prayer. John chapter 17 Verses one through five. After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, father, the hour has come Glorify your son so he can give glory back to you for you have given him a 40 over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one. You have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life. To know you. The only true God and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
Speaker 1 00:02:22 I brought glory to you here on earth. By completing the work you gave me to do. Now, father bring me into the glory we shared before the world began. Jesus begins his prayer with the words, peak hour has come. We see this phrase of the hour, come up again and again from Jesus throughout the book of John, It is a reminder that Jesus worked on a defined timeline that we do not
Speaker 1 00:03:07 Jesus knows what is to come and what he will have to do In this last prayer. He speaks as a man just talking to his father, But also with all the authority as the mediator for humankind who is equal to the father, He speaks of his glory and the father's glory as this was his work on earth To bring the father quarry through reconciliation of his creation. Jesus first speaks of his own glory. Before he came to earth. Jesus is a part of the triune God and had glory long before he ever took on human form. He then speaks of the father's glory and the ways that Jesus has brought him glory through his messages and miracles and the training of the disciples, But his greatest gift of glory to the father came through finishing the work he set out to do in his suffering and his death. And by his finished work, he has given us eternal life. As we get closer to Easter, it can be difficult to balance the coming celebration with the sobering examination of our sinful selves, Our acknowledgement of our sinful ways and trusting in God and accepting his grace and forgiveness is what allows us to partake in eternal life and to participate fully in the celebration that is Easter Sunday
Speaker 1 00:05:10 Today. We're once again, going to start our week with a time of confession. If you have a notebook or a journal, take some time and think over the last few weeks, Where have you seen yourself fall short? Where have you chosen self over Jesus, Write down these things and bring them to the feet of Jesus, asking for forgiveness And accepting his abundant grace. Thank him for eternal life with him and the father. Jesus. We come before you again with humility, bringing our sin and our wrongdoing. Forgive us for every time we made ourselves God of our lives For every time that we put ourselves first at the expense of someone else, Forgive us for every word that was unkind or unloving and speaking with mal-intent. Thank you for forgiveness. Thank you for grace. Thank you for new life that we can keep coming back. When we fall short, We have love you Jesus. Amen.

When they see they know half week, um, too, when they see as may, they, you know, <inaudible>, you know that we come to you when they see us, they, you know, Make us one, like you make us one, like bringing praise to you, bringing glory to you.
