Speaker 1 00:00:11 Welcome to the meditation and worship series with west side church. Over the next few weeks, we will be meditating on scripture and diving into some practices. As we walk through the season of lent. Our hope is that over the course of this Lenten season, this time of meditation and worship can be a breath of fresh air as we journey towards Easter together. So let us start today by pausing for a moment and focusing our attention to Jesus. May we be expectant of the movement of the holy spirit in our time together. If you were in a place that allows close your eyes, Hold your hands out in front of you in a posture of surrender, Take a deep breath in And out And another in And out This week, we are going through a few different Psalms. The book of Psalms is a rich and beautiful book full of poetry and songs and prayers covering the fast range of emotions felt by humanity, Psalm 25. Oh Lord. I give my life to you. I trust in you. My God do not. Let me be disgraced or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced. But disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
Speaker 1 00:01:54 Show me the right path. The Lord point out the road for me to follow Lead me by your truth and teach me for you. Are the God who saves me All day long. I put my hope in. You Remember, oh Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from a long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing. Love for you are merciful. Oh Lord. The Lord is good. And does what is right? He shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness, all who keep his covenant and obey his demands For the honor of your name. Oh Lord. Forgive. My many, many sins. Psalm 25 is a prayer of lament. Lament is not a word we use often, and it's not something we talk about regularly, but we all feel it To lament means to express sorrow or regret or to mourn usually in a demonstrative way. We've all experienced this. Our world is not always an uplifting place. We experienced pain and loss. We hurt others. We make mistakes and wrong choices.
Speaker 1 00:03:47 We do the best that we can, but sometimes we still fall short In this Psalm. David is lamenting over his own sin and wrongdoing. We again find David and a moment of realizing the effects of sin on our lives and our relationship with God. When was the last time you spend some time with God grieving or expressing sorrow for something you have done, When you have lamented, what has it looked like? How has it changed you and your relationship with God? It can be vulnerable to actually express sorrow and regret. It takes humility to take responsibility for wrongdoing. But the thing we can be sure of is that when we come before the Lord with our sins, we are always, always, always met with grace and love. He will not turn his head from us. Psalm three is another prayer of lament from David that we will take some time today to meditate on and pray As it's read. But the holy spirit show you. If there is anything to grieve or mourn, Take some time to sit with Jesus and express to him. The sorrow, you feel Allow his grace to cover and comfort you today.
