Speaker 2 00:00:12 Welcome to the meditation and worship series with west side church. Over the next few weeks, we will be meditating on scripture and diving into some practices. As we walk through the season of lent. Our hope is that over the course of this Lenten season, this time of meditation and worship can be a breath of fresh air as we journey towards Easter together. So let us start by pausing for a moment. Focusing our attention on Jesus. May we be expectant of the move of the holy spirit in our time together. If you were in a place to do so close your eyes, Hold out your hands in front of you in a posture of surrender, Take a deep breath in And out And another in And out This week, we are walking through a few different songs. The book of Psalms is a rich and beautiful book full of poetry, songs and prayers covering the vast range of emotions felt by humanity. Today. We are starting in Psalm 23, Psalm 23. The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters. He refreshes my soul.
Speaker 2 00:02:01 He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil for you are with me, Your rod and your staff. They comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. There are a few more comforting and peaceful words. And these, This som evokes a mood of meditative security. Here. We can find rest in our reliance on the Lord, David, the writer of the Psalm makes these words personal. He doesn't just say that the Lord is the shepherd, but he says my shepherd. This is intimate. As David speaks from the heart and the mind of a shepherd himself, he knows what it means to care for a flock, the way a good shepherd should. And David looks to the Lord and sees the same care given to him by the Lord For David to call God shepherd. He is acknowledging God as his king, his savior and the one who meets all his needs. Even the needs for his soul.
Speaker 2 00:03:52 David asserts. He restores my soul. He renews, he refreshes our inmost being as well. Where in your life are you in need of refreshing or renewing of your soul? We are in constant need of refreshing of our souls. Second Corinthians four 16 reminds us though our outer self is wasting away. Our inner self is being renewed day by day. Today. Spend some time in prayer and think through the following questions. What am I thankful for Recall? A moment that made you feel alive at peace, comforted or hole, an experience that made you feel close to God.
Speaker 2 00:05:03 Recall a moment that made you feel drained of energy, frustrated, angry, or sad, an experience in which you felt far from God.
Speaker 2 00:05:19 Ask the Lord to restore your soul again, To fill you back up, to bring peace and comfort, Breathe deeply thinking Jesus for caring for us the way a good shepherd does
