Speaker 2 00:00:04 Welcome to the lent meditation and worship series with west side church. Our hope is that this time can be a breath of fresh air. As we journey towards Easter together, Let's start by pausing for a moment and focusing our attention on Jesus. Let us be expectant of the movement of the holy spirit in our time together. If you're in a place to do so close your eyes, Hold out your hands in front of you. Take a deep breath in And out. And one more in And out Romans chapter eight verses one through eight. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong in Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life giving spirit has free to from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body, God declared an end to sins control over us by giving his son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us who no longer follow our sinful nature, but instead, follow the spirit. Speaker 2 00:02:04 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, But those who are controlled by the holy spirit, think about things that please the spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death, But letting the spirit control your mind leads to life and peace For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws and it never will. That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God, Speaker 2 00:02:50 Here again. Paul reminds us that as those who follow Jesus, we are no longer controlled by sin. We are to be people who let the spirit fill their minds for this leads to life and peace. We have seen over and over again this week that a life with Jesus is a life of peace. We are not promised an easy or a safe life, but we are given peace and hope. What does it look like to live in a way that is spirit driven and not sin driven? What does it mean to have the holy spirit? Fill your mind A good way to practice. This is through the meditation and memorization of scripture. The more we fill our mind with truth, the more we allow ourselves to be led by it. Today, we're going to meditate on another part of a letter written by Paul, As it is read, close your eyes and let it fill you. Come back to these verses again throughout your day and reread them. Hold on to the promise of peace, Philippians chapter four, verses four through nine. Don't worry about anything. Instead. Pray about everything, tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Speaker 2 00:04:41 Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything. We can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now dear brothers and sisters. One final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable And right, and pure and lovely. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice. All that you learned and received from me. Everything you heard from me and saw me doing Then let the God of peace be with you. Holy spirit, Phyllis again today, Fill us to overflowing That every word indeed from us today is drenched in you That others would hear and see through us today. You Jesus Open our minds to truth that we can keep turning to and hold tightly to. Amen. Speaker 3 00:06:06 Jeez swapped. No knowing that we could not say Speaker 3 00:06:41 He gave, Um, . He said it right? He gave us, He gave us Nothing. No, nothing can SAP No trouble hardship or persecution, famine or danger, Not angels or demons present or future and heaven or hell. He said it, right? He said it. He gave us, He gave us
