Speaker 1 00:00:07 Welcome to the lent meditation and worship series with west side church. Our hope is that this time can be a breath of fresh air. As we journey towards Easter together, Let's start today by pausing for a moment and focusing our attention to Jesus. Let us be expectant of the movement of the holy spirit and our time together. If you were in a place that allows close your eyes, Hold out your hands in front of you. Take a deep breath in And out. And one more in And out. Romans chapter six verses one through four. Well then should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful Crace? Of course not. Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his staff For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the father. Now we also may live new lives. Speaker 1 00:01:47 In this chapter, Paul, the author of the book of Roman shifts from talking about our sins as actions to sin, as a principle, From what we do to where those actions are rooted, Sin and disobedience are inherent in us. They are in us from the moment we are born, But because of what Jesus did in his death and resurrection, we don't have to live a life controlled by it anymore. We are identified with Christ in his death and baptism, meaning a we get to live new lives. A couple of weeks ago, we looked at Jesus' baptism in the Jordan As followers of Jesus. We are also called to participate in baptism. Baptism is an act that physically shows that we are United with Christ, that we are following the way of Jesus. When we are baptized, we show that we are no longer going to be held down by the things of this world. Does this mean we will never sin again? No, we are still human and we'll continue to make sinful choices. But our relationship with sin changes, we no longer live for ourselves, but live for Jesus. And that changes everything. Have you made a decision to follow Jesus, to be identified with him in his death and resurrection? Speaker 1 00:03:37 What was making that decision like for you? What has walking with Jesus been like since Have you been baptized? If not, why not Today? Take some time to journal through these questions. Journaling is a practice that allows us to sit and practice the presence of God to reflect it is a time that pushes us to be quiet and hear what he is saying. Jesus, because of you, we have the opportunity to live new lives. Thank you for making a way for us to not be controlled by sin anymore. Thank you for bringing us into your burial and your baptism so that we may be made new. Give us the courage to keep saying yes to you. Jesus. Amen. Speaker 3 00:04:52 Jesus That week. Not say He said it. He gave us . He became Playing himself. You said it. He gave us, He gave us No nursing. No hardship, famine or danger. Speaker 3 00:07:12 Future.
